Six-year-old Bella McGuire, one of the country's youngest environmentalists, created Butterfly Balls to help save pollinators and restore their habitats—one seed ball at a time! Driven by her love for nature and inspired by her entomologist mom, Bella is on a mission to make a difference and protect our planet's pollinators. What started as a small goal of making 1,000 seed balls has become something much bigger: a challenge to create 1 million pollinator-friendly plant-packed seed balls by the time she finishes high school!
Bella's enthusiasm is contagious, inviting people of all ages to join her in this exciting adventure. Through free monthly events, Bella is teaching others how to make seed balls while sharing why pollinators are so important to our environment. Whether you want to get your hands dirty and make seed balls, plant them in your yard, or help spread them across Ohio and beyond, there's a way for everyone to get involved.
Bella believes that we can make a real difference together, and she hopes to inspire a community of pollinator champions. With a little creativity and a lot of heart, Bella is showing us all that even small actions can have a big, positive impact on the planet!

Each Butterfly Ball includes Blue Hyssop/Coneflower, Butterfly Milkweed, and Dwarf Teddy Sunflower seeds. It's best to plant your seed ball in the Fall to Early Spring. Provide seed balls with 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day, either indoors or outdoors.
Step 1
In a sunny location, plant the seed ball halfway into the soil.
Step 2
Water daily to keep the soil moist, then weekly once the plants reach 4 inches.
Step 3
Watch the plants grow and try to protect them from deer/critters.
Help Bella reach her goal of creating one million pollinator seed balls! A couple of dollars can go a long way toward purchasing the dirt, seeds, and supplies needed to support this incredible initiative. Thank you for being part of the restoration of pollinator habitats!
